Derby wins season opener 11-3 over Newton
Newton scored one in the first. Derby answered with a 2 run HR from Kade Sheldon in the bottom of the first. Newton tied the game with one in the third. Derby added a run in the fourth to lead 3-2. Newton scored one in the sixth to tie the game again. Derby went ahead 4-3 with a run in the seventh. Derby broke the game open with seven in the eighth to lead 11-3. Matt Buffington hit a two run single and Holder Pantier hit a grand slam.
Makani Nabarro led the Twins with four hits in four at bats. Kade Sheldon has three hits and three RBI. Holder Pantier had four RBI. Lukas Ward went five innings allowing two runs (one earned) with three Ks. Luis Diaz went 1.2 innings allowing one run with three Ks. Alejandro Vanegas finished the game allowing no runs with four Ks.
